Shoot Day 7-PU1: Macclesfield Pickup

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

shoot-day-07_pu1_1.jpg

Today we returned to the Macclesfield location to film the scenes that we could not complete back on the 25th August. Since today was also the AFL Grand Final we also decided to limit the shoot to the morning, allowing the cast and crew to have the afternoon and the rest of the weekend off.

As you can see from both images, the main aspect of this shoot was to film several car shots. For this reason safety was a major component and everything ran smoothly. There were several minor delays caused by passing cars, plus the Sun held us up a few times when it decided to show its self from behind the clouds.

The Sound Track – It Begins

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

eastwestsol-logo.gif

Two big announcements in the one post and both relate to an important component of any feature film, the sound track. Even back in the days before talkies, the audience would watch a silent film accompanied by music, often a single instrument (piano) and in some cases an ensemble or orchestra would be used.

The 1st announcement is to welcome David Atkins into the project. David has a massive job ahead of himself as he composes the music for both the trailer and the film. No doubt this will consume a significant amount of time.

The 2nd announcement is to provide David with a tool that allows him to not only do this, but also produce a 1st class sound track. The tool purchased is “Symphonic Orchestra Platinum” by EASTWEST Sounds Online.

Production Shoot Planning #4

Monday, September 24th, 2007

planning_1.jpg

On Sunday evening we held our 4th production planning meeting.
These meetings are held for the specific purpose of reviewing and planning the shooting schedule.

Budget Review
We 1st looked at how the budget was holding up, taking note of the up and coming costs associated with the blue screen shoots as well as the soundtrack and ongoing catering. The opportunity to invest in the film is still available for any who are interested.

Advanced planning – future shoot days
We also briefly discussed shoot days 14 and 15 which have been replaced by the Macclesfield pickup. Could all cast and crew required for shoot days 14, 15, 22, 23 & 24 please review and let us know if you foresee any issues.

Shoot Days 14-15 moved to the 10th-11th of November.
Shoot Days 22-23 moved to the 17th-18th of November.
Shoot day 24 moved to the 24th of November.

Shoot day 8 to be moved to a future date – TBA.

Blue Screen
The main agenda item of this weeks meeting was to discuss the blue screen shoot. During the meeting we checked out the location and started the planning phase, over the coming days and weeks we anticipate everything coming into place for what we believe will be the most challenging component of the production process.

A synopsis of blue screen requirements are;
Blue screens – purchased and delivered.
HDMI capture card – purchased and delivered.
HDMI 10M cable – purchased, waiting on delivery.
Backup Methodology – Outstanding.
Structure building – Requirements identified.
Lighting and misc equipement – To be identified.

Shoot Day 10, 11 & 12: Mt Evelyn and Healesville

shoot-day-11_1.jpg

These shoot days were the 1st three days that saw the filming move into interior locations with more substantial dialog. Although there are still a significant amount of action sequences to film, you could say we are now moving into a period of filming that presents the storyline. One of the things that sets independent films apart from big Hollywood type productions in most cases is the story telling.

For the cast and crew, its the storyline of ES that is the essences of the film, without it the film would simply be another 90 minutes of entertainment. Its our hope that the storyline will both entertain you for 90 minutes and also present you with a message of hope that will leave a lasting impression.

There will be no synopsis for internal and/or blue screen shoot days other than to say that each shoot day starts at dawn and concludes at dusk generally in the one location for the entire day.

Shoot Day 8-9: Bega and Merrimbula

Sunday, September 2nd, 2007

shoot-day-9_1.jpg

The Bega Weekend shoot started early Saturday morning with a trail of Silver cars winding their way east and then north to the coastal town of Merrimbula in Southern NSW.

During the trip we scoured the countryside for an interesting looking ridge that would save us a trip to the backbone of Mount Feathertop, but to no avail. We’ll just have to wait for the weather to warm up and the snows to melt.

We setup “camp” at a local Holiday Park before heading to the RSL for a bite of dinner.

Those who had the early morning start were greeted with the special joy of an East Coast sunrise over the water as the cameras rolled capturing those early morning scenes on the beach. Back to base to collect those who had a sleep-in and bacon and eggs breakfast. All the dads were wished a Happy Father’s Day and we set off to the secret location for the day’s shooting.

A few scenes around the edge of the water before those that had to make the jump into the water took their places for the big, and chilly splash. Well done Dave, Cassie and Daniel.

We were done with the shooting in time for some lunch and another leisurely 7 hours in the car plus a stop at the Family Restaurant on the the way home. In total 14 hours of driving for 4.5 hours of shooting!

Synopsis of the weekends events
Day 1:
08:00 – Travel to Merimbula
Day 2:
06:30 – Makeup and Wardrobe, 1st makeup call for cast.
07:00 – Shooting at Location 1, Merimbula for 1 hour.
08:30 – Relocate to Location 2, Bega
10:00 – Shooting at Location 2, Bega for 3.5 hours.
13:30 – A Wrap, then Lunch.
14:00 – Travel Home.
