Wardrobe Measure Up

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

wardrobe_1

It’s all starting to come together
Quite a few of us got together today to get measured up for costumes. This was an informal process that allowed everyone to mingle and chat amongst themselves while Jenny Wood measured everyone up. Once the measure up was finished and everyone had left, Jenny, Luke and I (David) had a chance to discuss wardrobe in more detail, this resulted in some significant tweaks to several costumes.

A message to the Wood family
Luke and I would firstly like to thank Jenny’s family for allowing her to take on such an important role. To Jenny, the experience and skill you bring to this project is invaluable. The words “Thank You” somehow seem inadequate when I think about the amount of time and effort you have put in so far.

For those of you that would like to inflict pain on yourself….try and work out how this was done. Let me add….there is no blue screen or masking (roto) involved in this shot. Just Shake 4.

The End Begins Today

Arrrg…. The night out at the movies was a fun time for everyone who came. We all paid LUX for our boarding passes so no one had to walk the plank. We had an hour before the movie started to socialise, there was plenty of jovial conversations, the usual catchup chat and also a bit of Elindil’s Secret talk. When the cinema opened, we had the pick of the seats on the upper deck. We watched the usual Val Morgan adverts and then a few Disney previews. Then the feature started, At World’s End has an interesting start and in essence continues on from Dead Man’s Chest. Without going into the plot and spoiling it for anyone who is going to see this 3rd instalment of the Pirate franchise. It was a movie filled with humour, Special FX and lots of action. At the end of the movie it didn’t feel like one had sat in a cinema for 3 hours. I do think the franchise has ran its course and the various promo tags used by Disney that include the phrase “The End” actual sounds true. In conclusion, having a night out to watch a film like this was a pleasant escape from the pre production planning of Elindil’s Secret.

There is one thing I will say, if Jack Sparrow’s experience of having delusions is what it is really like, can I have some. Go see the movie to find out what I mean. Anyway, its now time to get back into the swing of things, starting on Saturday with the 1st wardrobe fitting and then on Sunday night with the usual Pre-production meeting.

Hint: Unlike us, if you don’t want to miss out, stay and watch all the credits at the end of the film.
Savvy…..

Shooting Schedule

victoria_sat_image

Whats the satellite image of Victoria got to do with this post…. well…. 99% of the film will be made in Victoria.

After three and half hours of sitting around two Macbooks we have achieved what we would consider a milestone. The production calendar now contains shoot days…. end July through mid November. That gives us just on 10 weeks until we start shooting the film. In the mean time, pre-production work will continue to increase for the crew, we will be contacting those who have shown an interest in this area of the film shortly.

Final script…. Or is it
A note for the cast, that final script that was recently sent out…. well…. it’s not that final…. a new final will be sent out shortly…. Don’t worry, the changes are only minor.

Savvy?…. At Worlds End reminder
There is a decent sized group going to the movies on the 24th, any cast or crew who would like to come need to email us by Tuesday 15th May. It looks like the session time is 9:00pm.

2nd Auditions

Audition 2aAudition 2bAudition 2c

Today we held the 2nd round of auditions, this round was to make a final decision on 4 more roles. Each actor has been given the role they auditioned for. We outlined to them how they should build the characters including accents and movements.

The remaining roles in the film are all minor, we will approch individuals over time and ask them if they are happy to fullfill these roles.

Script finished

Once again, the week has presented several challenges. A new version of the script was released with the dialogue pulled all the way back. It now contains what is necessary to tell the story, this means the progression through the film is more natural as characters don’t get bogged down in unnecessary conversations.

Locations
We have also started to work through the process of applying for permits required to film at the various locations. This is possibly the most frustrating process as the information is not easy to find and it is not always clear who to contact. We are however making progress….

The further we move along the pre-production process the more evident that this blog is becomming a type of “Making an Independent Feature Film 101″.

A quick reminder
Those involved, should checkout the “Ahoy…there me hardies” blog. We have extended the date to get back to us by 5 days, that makes it the 15th May, so email us if you are coming to the movies on Thursday 24th May. Also read the “week 7 update” and jot down the dates.

To those who are auditioning this Saturday, GOOD LUCK!

Ahoy….there me hardies. It’s time for a night out
